Bob Mould (Hüsker Dü)

"The whole album’s got the bass on one side of the speaker and the guitar on the other - what an art statement! I got this for my 16th birthday, and it was a real shock when I heard it. It’s got very simple bar chords, real unrelenting rhythms, and the most ridiculous lyrics I’ve ever heard. And there’s these really odd Nazi references, which is weird considering Joey (Ramone) is Jewish. But then , The Ramones are the exception to every rule." Bob Mould. leader of Hüsker Dü. Melody Maker interview, september 1992.

How does it feel to be so widely admired and copied?
"You learn to live with it. We all have our idols."

Who are yours?
"Well, the Ramones and that kind of direction got me into music in a big way. It was thanks to them that I started playing in 1976 and got my first crappy guitar. that was a Gibson 56 copy which I got from Sears department store. I taught myself to play on that, then after about six months I picked up a proper guitar, but yeah, the Ramones were a big early influence." Bob Mould, leader of Hüsker Dü. Weedbus fanzine, issue 9
